Friday 12th December 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week we have heard choirs of angels singing as the children in EYFS and Key Stage One performed the Nativity not once, not twice, but three times to enraptured audiences! All of the children displayed such confidence and enthusiasm it was easy to forget just how young they are. We are so very proud of their efforts, grateful to the staff team for pulling it all together and to parents for supporting children to learn their lines and for turning up to see the children perform.

Next week the children in Key Stage Two will have their chance to shine when they perform in our Carol Service on Thursday 18th December at 2pm in St John’s Church. Parents, you are all invited to join the children to share in the celebration.

Today we are re-launching our monthly, Values Newsletter. The aim of the newsletter is to dive-deeper into the reasons why we recognise the values we do, and to explore how we can demonstrate our values in the choices we take and the decisions we make. There is a ‘call to action’ on each newsletter – the children are asked to complete the back page, where they are encouraged to note what the value looks like in action and to write a short poem or prayer linked to the value. The children then return the back page and we will share their views in our collective worship and display them for all to see. If parents would like to keep a copy of their children’s page we can photocopy the originals for you.

Below is a summary of the learning that has taken place across the school this week.

Early Years
This week, the children in Nursery and Reception have been working on our Nativity play, practising every day and having fun trying on all the animal costumes. We have worked hard to learn all the words to and the actions for the songs. We have also been reading ‘The Gingerbread Man’  story and exploring lots of materials to create Christmas decorations in class.
Year One
Year One have worked hard in rehearsals this week and they have delivered a great Nativity performance. The chlidrenw ere nervousm but they did a great job of remembering their lines and delivering them with confidence. Alongside this, the children have been learning how to double and halve numbers up to 20, and have been looking at the same skill for different objects too. All of the children have grasped the concept and been able to double and halve independently.
Year Two
In this the penultimate week of school before breaking up for Christmas, Year Two has been filled with excitement and energy. The children have been busy putting the finishing touches on their performances of the Nativity. Thank you so much to the parents who came and watched the Nativity performances this week. The children shone with pride as they performed so confidently in front of an audience. I am sure we can agree that their hard work certainly did pay off! With the holiday just around the corner, we’re enjoying this magical time of year in the classroom with Christmas jumper day being a colourful success. We are looking forward to ending the term on a joyful, festive note by making next week full of cheer!
Year Three
This week in Year Three, we have been exploring instructions in English and learning different techniques to help us write clearly and effectively. In Maths, we have come to the end of this term’s work on multiplication and division. The class has worked incredibly hard and gained lots of new knowledge along the way. In Science, we have been learning about light and darkness, including the differences between opaque, translucent and transparent materials. In PSHE, we delved into our emotions and focused on understanding them better. Well done for another great week, Year Three!
Year Four & Five
It has been a learning-filled week in Year Four and Five with a healthy dose of Christmas anticipation thrown in! In English, we have been perfecting the art of using effective similes, metaphors, personification and idioms to describe scenes figuratively. We particularly enjoyed writing Christmas poems in which the subject was not revealed but described through the above techniques. Our RE learning this half-term has focused on art and music used to convey the Christmas message so we naturally made our own pop-up Christmas cards! A particularly insightful set of PSHE lessons this week centred around budgeting skills as part of our ‘Lifesavers’ scheme. It was great to put some of our mathematical knowledge to practical use in real-life scenarios which adults have to undertake on a daily basis!
Year Six
Year Six have been continuing their fractions learning, ensuring we are confident finding a fraction of an amount, using a fraction of an amount to find the whole and dividing any fraction by an integer. In English, the children have finished writing their non-chronological reports on The Impact of WWII on Children and have planned and begun their next piece on ‘The Causes of WWII’.

Head Teacher awards were presented to the following children in this week’s celebration assembly.
