Governing Body

Here at St John the Divine Primary School we have an active governing body.

Our governors are representatives of the parents, school staff and the local community.

The Full Governing Body (FGB) meet once a term. Alongside this the governors work is supported through termly committee meetings. There are four committees: Standards, Teaching and Learning, Admissions, Finance and Audit and the Buildings committee. The Chair of the Governing Body is Peter Truesdale.

The Standards, Teaching and Learning Committee (ST&L) support the leadership team in ensuring that high standards are maintained in teaching and learning and that our curriculum is relevant to our children, whilst meeting statutory requirements. The Chair of the Standards Teaching and Learning Committee is Luke Davy.

The Finance and Audit Committee (F&A) is responsible for overseeing school expenditure within the school budget. The Buildings Committee is now part of the Finance and Audit Committee, and remains responsible for Health and Safety and ensuring that there is a clear development plan to enable us to keep our Old Victorian building in the best shape possible to provide for your child to enjoy during their time with us. The Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee is Mark Chapman.

The Admissions Committee (ADM) is responsible for ensuring that our admissions policy is adhered to. The Chair of the Admissions Committee is Mark Williams.

The day-to-day running of the school is entrusted to the Headteacher and staff.

Peter Truesdale – Chair of Governors

I have lived in Kennington and worshipped at Saint John the Divine for nearly 40 years. My Mum was a primary school teacher! I was a member of Lambeth Council for 20 years, including four years as a leader of the council. The first in my family to go to university, I know how important education is and what I owe to those who taught me.

Canon Mark Williams

I have been the Vicar of St John the Divine Church since 2010, and as the parish priest I am an ex-officio governor of the School. A keen musician, I grew up in South Wales, and am also the first person in my family to go to university, thanks to some exceptional teachers along the way. I am fiercely committed to improving opportunities, educational or otherwise, for all people, irrespective of background, and I love working in and celebrating our diverse multi-cultural context in London.

Luke Davy – Parent Governor

My children have been attending St John the Divine Primary School for many years, with my eldest starting in 1999 and this has led me to have a strong affiliation with the school, and local community. I have worked in and around education for over twenty years working in partnership with schools, colleges and universities delivering a number of sports, social development, pupil engagement, peer mentoring and educational review projects. I have worked in the private and public sector and have gained a wide number of experiences, which will now be able to benefit St John the Divine in many key areas. I currently work at Roehampton University working closely with students to ensure they achieve their full potential.

Julia Payne – Vice Chair of the Governing Body Foundation Governor
I have regularly worshipped at St John the Divine Kennington, as a member of the adult choir for the last seven years.  My professional background is in Banking, with over 30 yeas experience, supporting customers to achieve their financial ambitions  My role as a governor will be to act as a critical friend, to ensure all children are in an environment where they can reach their full potential.
Mark Chapman – Foundation Governor
I have worshipped at St John the Divine Kennington for 10 years, and lived in the Kennington area for over 15 years. Currently a partner in an Asset Management company I bring a focus on the finance and audit committee to ensure that the school does the best for our children with the limited resources available. As a parent of three children at the school I can see the real difference that the school makes to individual children – enabling them to achieve their full potential – and am passionate about ensuring that the school continues to provide that for all those that we welcome in.
Ola Fashola – Parent Governor

I am a father of four children and I currently have two children at St John The Divine Church of England Primary School, my son is in Year One and my daughter is in Year Four. My eldest daughter also attended the school. My family has a strong relationship and commitment to the school. As a parent Governor, I will represent other parents to ensure that the school provides the best possible education, opportunities, and experiences for all our children. My professional background is in law and business analysis. I have also worked in the legal profession for over 20 years in different capacities and I have a strong interest in education. It is my belief that my experiences over the years would be of value to the governing body, parents, and the school in general.
