Governing Body

Here at St John the Divine Primary School we have an active governing body.

Our governors are representatives of the parents, school staff and the local community.

The Full Governing Body (FGB) meet once a term. Alongside this the governors work is supported through termly commitee meetings. There are four committees: Standards, Teaching and Learning, Admissions, Finance and Audit and the Buildings committee.

The Standards, Teaching and Learning Committee (ST&L) support the leadership team in ensuring that high standards are maintained in teaching and learning and that our curriculum is relevant to our children, whilst meeting statutory requirements.

The Finance and Audit Commitee (F&A) is responsible for overseeing school expenditure within the school budget. The Buildings Committee is now part of the Finance and Audit Committee, and remains responsible for Health and Safety and ensuring that there is a clear development plan to enable us to keep our Old Victorian building in the best shape possible to provide for your child to enjoy during their time with us.

The Admissions Committee (ADM) is responsible for ensuring that our admissions policy is adhered to.

The day-to-day running of the school is entrusted to the Headteacher and staff.

Peter Truesdale – Chair of Governors

I have lived in Kennington and worshipped at Saint John the Divine for nearly 40 years. My Mum was a primary school teacher! I was a member of Lambeth Council for 20 years, including four years as a leader of the council. The first in my family to go to university, I know how important education is and what I owe to those who taught me.

Luke Davy – Parent Governor

My children have been attending St John the Divine Primary School for many years, with my eldest starting in 1999 and this has led me to have a strong affiliation with the school, and local community. I have worked in and around education for over twenty years working in partnership with schools, colleges and universities delivering a number of sports, social development, pupil engagement, peer mentoring and educational review projects. I have worked in the private and public sector and have gained a wide number of experiences, which will now be able to benefit St John the Divine in many key areas. I currently work at Roehampton University working closely with students to ensure they achieve their full potential.

Julia Payne – Foundation Governor
I have regularly worshiped at St John the Divine Kennington, as a member of the adult choir for the last seven years.  My professional background is in Banking, with over 30 yeas experience, supporting customers to achieve their financial ambitions  My role as a governor will be to act as a critical friend, to ensure all children are in an environment where they can reach their full potential.
Mark Chapman – Foundation Governor
I have worshiped at St John the Divine Kennington for 10 years, and lived in the Kennington area for over 15 years. Currently a partner in an Asset Management company I bring a focus on the finance and audit committee to ensure that the school does the best for our children with the limited resources available. As a parent of three children at the school I can see the real difference that the school makes to individual children – enabling them to achieve their full potential – and am passionate about ensuring that the school continues to provide that for all those that we welcome in.
Sonia Berglund – Staff Governor
As a member of the teaching body of St John the Divine, I have day-to-day experience of the life of the school and the challenges we face as educators. Since joining the school in December 2019, I’ve developed knowledge of its teaching and learning practices, which enables me to realise the extent to which the education we work for has an impact on our pupils. Engaging pupils and making them feel that they can own their learning is what I like to aim for, every day, and it has led me onto completing a MEd in transforming practice. I look forward to act as a source of support to the board of trustees and head teacher of our school.
